Ny nursing home visits6/23/2023 The State of New York requires visitors to receive a negative SARS-CoV-2 test result: one day prior to visitation for antigen tests, and two days prior for PCR tests. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests or antigen tests provide useful information. Some infected people may also experience quite mild symptoms and fail to disclose them. However, symptom screening for illness is not effective for these infected but asymptomatic. Under the new guidance facilities cannot require either vaccination or tests for entrance while they are allowed to screen for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 prior to visitation. First, visitors should get a timely COVID-19 viral test before visit and not visit if the test is positive. Certain precautions should be taken to contain the spread of COVID-19. But as they may contract the virus in communities but have no symptoms, they may unwittingly bring COVID 19 into nursing homes. The new guidance encourages visitors to visit older family members in nursing homes. The new guidance for visitation in nursing homes, issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a federal agency that administers the Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Programs in the United States, may exacerbate the situation because visitors may unknowingly bring the coronavirus from surrounding communities into nursing homes. As the highly transmissible omicron variant continues to spread through communities, nursing homes struggle to keep residents safe from infection and avoid COVID-19 outbreaks as of late 2022. This portion has declined since the start of the pandemic when nursing home deaths were nearly half of total deaths nationally. They represent less than 1% of the America population, but account for at least 23% of all COVID-19 deaths in the United States as of 30 January 2022. Nursing home residents in the United States have experienced a disproportionate amount of mortality from COVID-19 compared to other population groups. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
